PRIMARY JOB FUNCTION:    

Ensure safe and efficient loading, delivery and pick up of equipment and materials adhering to Matcom’s regulations and policies and the laws, by-laws and policies of the Ministry of Transportation.  Works with Dispatch, Supervisors and Crews to ensure all details of the job assigned are understood in order to deliver best service to clients. 

 Care is taken to complete Driver logbook data or electronic logs including, pre-trip and post-trip details, maintenance and repair reports, accident or incident reports.  Must be able to tarp and ensure safety and security of cargo, oversee condition of the vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, and monitor vehicle performance and mechanical fitness.

 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Complete circle check of vehicle, both pre-trip and post-trip, and complete an inspection report or log book.

  2. Ensure the loads are secure.  Over-dimensional loads must not be moved until special precautions have to be taken.

  3. Communicate in a positive collegial manner with Matcom staff and deliver on customer expectations.

  4. Maintain a clean vehicle and ensure servicing of vehicle has been performed as laid out in the maintenance schedule.

  5. Ensure annual drivers licence renewals are up to date.

  6. Operating vehicle with safety standards outlined in Matcom’s policies and Ministry of Transportation guidelines.

  7. In moving heavy loads, may run into different obstacles and may be required to take into consideration road size, traffic, overhead clearance of bridges and over passes, turning radius, and zoning regulations.

  8. Working as part of a team, when not driving, following instructions given by foreman. This can include, driving or operating forklifts, working chain falls, dollie watching, or just watching other operators to make sure they have a clear path.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

Education/Experience:  Minimum 3 Years of commercial driving with AZ or DZ valid licence.  High School or equivalent work experience.

  1. Language:  The primary language of this position is English.  Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

  2. Mathematical Skills: Ability to complete all trade related calculations such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to use standard measuring and levelling tools.  Ability to use and apply standard rigging and lifting charts (etc.) in practical situations.

  3. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram (blueprints, schematics etc.) form.
